The Annual School Bus Safety Roadeo is an opportunity for drivers from throughout the State of Illinois to test their knowledge and skills against other drivers. School bus laws and procedures as well as behind the wheel skills are tested. The drivers competing are offered workshops to enhance their skills. The Illinois winner is sponsored by the Illinois Association for Pupil Transportation to compete at the national level.
Contestants for this event must meet the following criteria:
1. Must hold a current school bus permit
2. Must be actively employed as a school bus driver
3. Must not have had a chargeable school bus accident during the past year
The number of contestants is limited to 60. Drivers match abilities in conventional buses. Plaques AND CASH PRIZES are presented to the first ($100), second ($75), and third ($50) place winners along with a plaque for the "Rookie" driver of the year as well as to the district they represent. 2010 IAPT SCHOOL BUS SAFETY ROADEO 1ST PLACE WINNER - DEBRA L'ABBE, FIRST STUDENT, PRAIRIE VIEW.

ILLINOIS SCHOOL BUS SAFETY POSTER CONTEST
Each year IAPT joins together with the Illinois Secretary of State’s office to sponsor the School Bus Safety Poster Contest. School children of all ages throughout the state follow the particular theme for each year and through school support and direction, they draw posters depicting the year's school bus safety theme. Illinois posters are submitted to IAPT for judging during the Joint Conference Trade Show in June and then winners of each category are taken to the National Conference for judging. Winning national posters are announced at the National Conference each year.
